  • Dr. Joseph S. Broz brings a wealth of experience and expertise to The SPECTRUM Group in the Strategic Acquisitions and Homeland Security Divisions. He has extensive experience in international business and strategic business development, and successfully led Spectrum in an independent information advisory role to the Janus and Marsico Funds for a period of over four years. He also brought a major client to Spectrum that increased its sales of defense armor plate multi-fold as a direct result of Spectrum introductions and leadership. He is a nationally-recognized expert on public and private sector preparedness, and is a leading contributor to research in the field of explosives detection using magnetic resonance techniques (at DHS and LANL). His recent experience has focused on energy security issues, climate change and renewable energy strategy and policy (NREL and CCS).

Biography:

Dr. Broz is a member of the Homeland Security Standards Advisory Panel of the American National Standards Institute which supported the 9-11 Commission in its recommendations on private sector preparedness. He also served as a member of the Critical Infrastructure Committee for the State of Colorado in the immediate aftermath of 9-11. He was appointed a member of the U.S. Delegation to the International Standards Organization (ISO) in Geneva for the Strategic Advisory Group on Security in 2005, and a Representative to ISO for the Strategic Advisory Group on Renewable Energy Standards in 2008. Dr. Broz is a former British-American Fellow of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (1995). He is a frequent speaker on private sector preparedness, delivering seminars and speeches to varied groups such as national trade associations, universities, annual corporate meetings, and business roundtables.
He recently co-chaired and assisted in the completion a Climate Strategy Action Plan for the State of Colorado under the auspices of the Colorado Climate Change Initiative (2007).

In 1991 and 1992, during the administration of President H.W. George Bush, Dr. Broz served as a White House Fellow and Special Assistant to the Director and to the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology. Dr. Broz graduated with a degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, in 1980 and received his Ph.D. in physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich. He has written and published numerous technical papers, and has been awarded several U.S. and foreign patents.

Education:

Dr. Broz graduated with a degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and received his Ph.D. in physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Dr. Broz served as a White House Fellow and Special Assistant to the Director and to the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology. He has written and published numerous technical papers, and has been awarded several U.S. and foreign patents. He is fluent in German, conversational in Spanish and literate in other languages.
