Biography:
Lieutenant General John B. Conaway (ret.) retired from active duty as Chief of the National Guard Bureau. In that position, he formulated the organizational vision and long-range plans for integrating Army and Air National Guard resources worldwide. He advised the Secretaries of the Army and Air Force, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Chiefs of Staff of the Army and Air Force, and FEMA. He also served as liaison among the federal government and state & territorial governors and adjutants general on all National Guard issues.
Among his other accomplishments, General Conaway institutionalized TQM within the Guard and established procedures for the planning, programming, and development of integrated initiatives for the Army and Air National Guard. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Evansville, an M.S. degree from Webster College, and an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Evansville.
